ExpressVPN
Broad device support with automatic protocol selection and plan-dependent connection limits.
Suited to Mixed-device households and router setups
Facts checked November 5, 2026
Our assessment
Worth considering for mixed-device households that want documented TV and router setup options and automatic connection selection. Check the exact plan allowance before covering a large household.
Write down the devices you actually use before comparing subscriptions. A plan with a familiar name is less useful than a setup route that matches the television or router you own.
This is a documentation-based assessment checked on 5 November 2026. No hands-on speed, streaming or leak-test results are claimed. Review the linked sources for the intended device and the current purchase terms.
A good fit when
- You want one provider with documented desktop, mobile, TV and router setup routes.
- You prefer an automatic connection choice but want alternative protocols available.
Look elsewhere when
- Your required device allowance exceeds the selected subscription.
- You need a feature confirmed on a particular platform and have not checked its support guide.
What the service includes
Protocol alternatives
Current protocol documentation lists Lightway, WireGuard, OpenVPN and IKEv2. Lightway is ExpressVPN's own protocol; available choices depend on the device.
Broad setup coverage
Its compatibility guide lists Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS, plus router options and TV platforms including Apple TV and Android TV.
Plan-dependent connections
The simultaneous-device allowance is plan dependent, with the current guide stating up to fourteen devices. A router connection can cover devices on that router's network.
